Privacy Policy

Privacy of Your Data

The Silversea Passengers community on Facebook (the community) and the Silversea Passengers website (the website) are each committed to maintaining the confidentiality of personal information held on people who are members.

This Website contains resources to support the Silversea Passengers community.  It is open for anyone who enjoys being on Silversea ships, or is planning to be onboard in the future.  Through the Facebook group and this Website we share our experiences and helpful information with one another.

While we consider the group to be part of the extended Silversea “family”, we are not part of the Silversea company and we do not represent them. Instead, this independent community was started by a passenger, Tony Hanks, in 2019 and it shares information from many people, like those in our Honour Roll of Contributors.

This policy describes how we protect the privacy of members’ personal information.

Collection of Information

We collect personal information on members to enable us to manage the activities of Silversea Passengers and to deliver services to you. The personal information we collect is appropriate and necessary to the services we provide to our members.

Personal information is collected with the member’s consent and in a manner that is fair, lawful and not unreasonably intrusive.

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: After your comment appears, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media & Images

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies typically last for one year, but you can always remove them from your browser manually at any point.

When you Log-In to the site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

Also when you Log-In, we will set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who We Share Your Data With

We take all reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold about you from misuse, loss, unauthorised use, modification and disclosure. Only the administrators of the community and website are permitted to access your personal information as a member of this online community.

We will not sell or exchange personal information for commercial gain and the information you post or comment is only shared with other users of this site. Please note that by using your Public Profile Page you can easily choose how much (or little) you wish to disclose about yourself to other members of this community.

How Long We Retain Your Data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are usually retained indefinitely. Please contact Admin via the Contact page if you are having trouble removing content that you previously posted to the site.

What Rights You Have Over Your Data

We provide you with access to the personal information we hold about you on the website and give you the opportunity to correct it.  All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time. Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Once you have an account on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

We will take all reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold about you from misuse, loss, unauthorised use, modification and disclosure. As explained previously in this Privacy Policy, please contact Admin via the Contact page if you are having trouble removing content that you previously posted to the site, or edit your Public Profile page.

Where Your Data is Sent

Your contributions and comments (if any) may be checked through an automated spam detection service and they will often also be vetted by a human site administrator. Contact them via the Contact Page with any concerns or issues.

We will not collect information about a person’s health, their racial or ethnic origin, their political, religious or philosophical beliefs and affiliations, their membership in professional or trade associations or unions, their sexual preferences or businesses, or their criminal records without the person’s consent, except where collecting such information is required by law, or where the customer (or their representative) cannot give consent and the information is needed to provide a health service to the customer or to reduce a threat to the life or health of another person.

If you have a complaint about breaches of this Privacy Policy you should contact the Admin via the Contact page.
